Oh dear - Did they think we wouldn't notice! - A taste of things to come no doubt. They certainly kept this one quiet, whatever happened to consultation.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12 April 2013 - Still waiting for a response to the letter below - the silence is deafening.
Whether you were for or against this, it was a process
that needed input, it needed peoples' opinions and local
knowledge, it needed debating. Unfortunately this did not happen
within the corridors of local government, councillors were
conspicuous by their absence. We are a very small community, but we
are fighters and we will stand up for what is best for everyone who
lives here - we can do this as ordinary people as we are not
shackled by the rules and regulations that seem to have gagged our
local elected representatives, ie the so called  Pre-determination
rule that sent them scurrying into hiding.  Read on:

LETTER PUBLISHED IN THE NEWS POST LEADER 28 MARCH 2013
Re. North Blyth/Port of Blyth Biomass Power Station, Northumberland - This major
infrastructure project is planned to be located next to our small community in
North Blyth and Cambois, and next to the community of
Blyth.

The Examination by the Planning Inspectorate(PINS) on a Major National
Infrastructure Project for The North Blyth Biomass Power Station is now closed.
This took place at the old council chambers at Renwick Road in Blyth.

Sadly and unbelievably not one of the thirty or so councillors, or
elected representatives for this area - town, parish, county or otherwise,
attended ANY of these meetings. These hearings and meetings were very important,
and the only opportunity that local councillors (or anyone else for that matter)
could, in person or in writing, input into the proceedings on behalf of their
electorate. This was especially important in the areas of Crawford St, Hodgsons
Rd, North Blyth and Cambois.

There were nine meetings and hearings which were open to the public,
held on dates in October, but mainly in December (2012) and January (2013), at
Renwick Road in Blyth. The developer and their team of lawyers and experts, an
NCC officer, and other officials were in attendance, plus three members of the
community from North Blyth. The meetings were chaired by Mr Robert Upton CBE
AcSS, and backed up by his team from the Planning Inspectorate (based in
Bristol).

These were extremely important meetings, coming under the headings of
Specific Issue Hearings on Principal Issues, Open Floor Hearings, and a Site
Visit etc. The meetings and hearings were held (putting it simply)  to iron
out important issues, amongst other things, and to discuss important details
relevant to the well being of the community. In the case of the Open Floor
Hearings, it allowed members of the public, councillors, elected
representatives, the developer etc, to put forward the merits, de-merits,
concerns, and objections to the project, also to highlight the effects it would
have on the local community and far beyond. It allowed you to object to, or
support the project. The issue of being for or against the project was not
important in some instances, it was a matter of making sure that the best
interests of the community and surrounding area were served if the project went
ahead. These meetings covered issues on: Safety - Air Emissions - Dust Emissions
- Emissions to Water -Sourcing of the Biomass Fuel - Traffic Management Plans,
Impacts and Hazards - Fire Hazards and Risks - Visual Impact on the local
community, beach and surrounding areas and mitigation measures proposed in
relation to those who live close by in North Blyth, Blyth and Cambois - Plus
other issues important to the local area and beyond. Jobs and Apprenticeships
were also covered in written representations.

Public knowledge of the area was paramount in respect to many of points
discussed at the hearings and this was supplied mainly by three residents of
North Blyth who attended all of the meetings, and took part in the site visit.

The findings of this examination, including what was discussed at the
hearings/meetings, would form a recommendation by the Planning Inspectorate
(PINS) which would be passed onto the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate
Change, to enable him to make his final decision. This decision (which will
probably be made by Sec. of State Edward Davey MP for Kingston and Surbiton )
would impact (be it good or bad) on the lives of the of people who would be
living next to the power station, for the rest of their lives.

All of the meetings and hearings were recorded and the audio recordings
are published on the Planning Inspectorate website at:
http://infrastructure.planningportal.gov.uk/projects/north-east/port-blyth-new-biomass-plant/?ipcsection=hearings

I hope that this letter will prompt a response from our councillors/elected
representatives as to why they did not attend.
This was one instance where councillors could get involved and make a difference to
people in our local area, why didnt they?

Now they want our votes! - I have just had a flyer/newsletter
through my door from one of the leading political parties, asking us what needs
to be done in our area, and where they can make a difference - a bit too late in
this case. We feel let down and forgotton.

Carol Crossland - Resident of North Blyth

7 October 2012 - Update on the Planning Inspectorate Process for The RES North Blyth Biomass Power Station at Battleship Wharf, Port of Blyth:

The "Relevant Representations" to PINS (planning inspectorate in Bristol, the government agency responsible for examining planning applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects) for interested parties and the "Written Representations" have now been processed by the Inspectorate and the process to register your concerns, objections or support for this proposed development have closed. It beggars belief that no Parish, Town Councils or councillors put forward any concerns on behalf of their electorate (us), or registered as an interested party, nor made any written representations whatsoever. If you look at the other proposals for Biomass or Incinerator projects on the Planning Inspectorate website (or any other planning proposals for that matter), local parish / town councils, and councillors, have made representations on behalf of the people who live in the affected areas.

The shocking and shameful truth of the matter is that we have had NO such representation. Whether they were for or against  the project, they should have been seen to be representing concerns in their local community on such a huge major infrastructure project. We can only ask the question why, and only they can answer that question.

NBEL* / RES**, IN CO-OPERATION WITH THE PORT OF BLYTH, ARE PLANNING TO DEVELOP A MASSIVE 100MW BIOMASS POWER STATION
FUNDED BY YOU

SAY NO!

By browsing the pages in the navigation pane above, you will find much more detailed content, and details of our aims and how you, by possibly improving your knowledge of the technologies, make a decision to support us.
* NBEL (North Blyth Energy Ltd), a subsidiary of  **RES (Renewable Energy Sources, or Systems, )

Representations made by members of the public and local community were made public on the National Infrastructure Planning website on 7 June 2012 at http://infrastructure.planningportal.gov.uk/projects/north-east/port-blyth-new-biomass-plant/?ipcsection=relreps - most of the 204 representations are made AGAINST this development - To object and raise your concerns contact your local councils, councillors and your MP - East Bedlington Parish Council, Blyth Town Council and Northumberland County Council.

As seen by the developer....

All of the photographs released in the local press over the last year or so, have shown the power plant from the air, this is not acceptable!  Do they think we have our heads in the clouds?

JOBS?

We visited Stevens Croft biomass plant at Lockerbie organised by the developer RES. We were given a very interesting tour of the facility. This plant is less than half the size of the North Blyth proposal. The overwhelming impression we left with was that it was like the Mari Celeste - There was hardly anyone working there as it was highly automated!!!

This is a reacreational beach used by all, including swimmers, walkers, surfers, snorkelling etc. and our children paddle in the sea - People and marine ecology may suffer, as cooling water (potentially containing toxic water treatment additives) will be discharged into the sea at up to 10˚C above ambient. Would you let your child play in it?
Biomass combustion is far from clean with serious air quality degradation resulting in recognised health impact and cost. The whole biomass burning scenario requires serious scrutiny to at least minimise financial, health and environmental damage in the UK. We need application of joined up thinking, due diligence and duty of care, and more importantly debate, instead of just lying down and accepting it. People deserve better and local councillors and officials etc should be listening carefully to people who have justified concerns with this development, and not taking at face value what the developer is "marketing". Again, the "bio" prefix that leads the gullable to believe that whatever it is attached to will save the world - but Im sure this does not apply to our local government officers and councillors etc.
People are now starting to challenge the claims of RES the developers and Port of Blyth - we object to  the "green" label that is being used to propagandize communities on this new bandwagon of developments, also the over inflation of the numbers of jobs being used to reel us in.   Read More http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-east-news/todays-news/2012/04/12/blyth-power-station-plan-takes-step-forward-61634-30741734/#ixzz1xCLG2zjg

This is Our Nearest Co-Fired Biomass Powerstation  - We are already living with Biomass. The stuff belching out of the chimney is NOT reducing carbon emmissions, far from it. This is drifting over our homes on a daily basis, we are breathing in these particulates etc. day and .................

Picture

.......night.
RWE-npower want to build a power station on the old Blyth Powerstation site at Cambois - And good old RES wants to squeeze one onto a narrow spit of land just to finish off the "Biomass Triangle" in this area - So we will be subjected to three power stations in close proximity to our homes.

Picture

They have spent millions on persuading us that "THIS" is green and the emissions are harmless - My answer to that is - IT IS TOO CLOSE TO OUR HOMES - They can't spend their way out of that fact.

SWANS ON THE RIVER BLYTH AT NORTH BLYTH

Picture
If this development comes to our village - we want a fair deal. We are dismayed at the numbers of councillors who have suddenly become interested in the proposal - Not because they are interested in OUR well being, but because they want to know what community gain they can get out of the developer to spend in their areas. Any money that is forthcoming from the developer should be spent in North Blyth, Cambois and the area directly opposite, on the other side of the river at Crawford street and Hodgsons Road.
